At the top of the list, we had the first ultrasound on Mar 28. Two hands, two feet, heart, spleen, diaphragm, etc - everything looks good. And no boy parts were visible - it looks like a girl! She was moving around a lot - we may be in for a child with lots of energy. It makes us feel old just thinking about it. All in all it was very exciting - one step closer to the reality of it all.
Following the counsel of our church leaders, we went to the local precinct caucus meeting - where Jim was elected a county delegate. This means that many politicians have been calling, inviting us to barbecues, and sending literature. He went to the county convention last Saturday to vote for what candidates will be on the state and county ballots. Sort of exciting, in its own way.
The Saturday before Easter, Jim reprised his infamous role as the Easter Bunny for the Leeds Town Party. Leeds is a small town where Jim's sister lives. I used to wonder who did these things, and now I know - it's the brother of the person in charge of them. We threw together the costume the night before, so it still needs some work. The kids were not as scared as when he used the Bugs Bunny mask, in years past. They were mostly interested in the candy, of course.
In addition to working hard at making a baby and wrangling chemistry students, I have been slowly putting in the garden. The pansies are gorgeous, the herbs seem to be doing well, except the strawberries, which seem to be being eaten by ants. We are still working on the tomatoes and peppers, but indulged in an experimental corn patch.
And finally, Jim is the proud owner of a spiffy red scooter. It should get over 60 mpg. He has been riding it to work and church meetings. Jim entered a drawing and won a free helmet, but none of them fit, so I got one. Maybe I will get a license too, but probably not a baby seat.
That's all of our exciting news for now.
The gerbils are still restless, and want to go for a ride.
